Burglars lift computers from 5 Hampton schools

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton police are investigating a series of burglaries at city schools, and they need the public’s help identifying suspects.

Between December 1 and December 9, police say five Hampton City schools were burglarized:

  • Dec. 1 — Hampton High School
  • Dec. 8 — Bridgeport Academy
  • Dec. 9 — Hunter B. Andrews School
  • Dec. 9 — George P. Phenix School
  • Dec. 9 — Jefferson Davis Middle School

Investigators say the burglaries happened after school hours and that the thieves broke in through windows. They took Apple MacBook laptops from four schools, Apple Desktop computers from two schools and an Apple iPad from one school.

As part of the city’s response to the crimes, the Hampton Police Division is increasing patrols near all city schools, and each school has added additional security measures.
