VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach detectives are one step closer to solving three sexual assault cases almost 30-years-old.
In May 1988, a woman was walking along 24th Street when a man jumped out of the woods, grabbed her and sexually assaulted her. This September, detectives found out about a DNA match related to the assault, and a warrant for rape was obtained for 52-year-old Julian A. Romaro, who lives in North Carolina.
Romaro is currently in custody in North Carolina for unrelated charges. He will be extradited to Virginia Beach to face a judge about the Oceanfront assault.
Last month, police arrested 54-year-old Benjamin James Madonia in Florida. He’s also charged with rape, but in connection to an assault in 1987. A woman was sexually assaulted after accepting a ride home from a supposed Good Samaritan.
In a third case, detectives arrested 52-year-old Charles Pender Brown this month for a rape and abduction case from September 1987. Police said the suspect in that case grabbed a woman off the street while walking near the Oceanfront and took her to a house where she was assaulted.
