VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Police have captured the man accused of scamming Virginia Beach residents since October.

Thursday morning, Virginia Beach police alerted the media and the public of 39-year-old Eric Wayne Allen, who had been identified as the person suspected of going around neighborhoods, borrowing money and never returning it. By 7 p.m., the police department started receiving tips as to his whereabouts, and by 10 p.m. Allen was in custody, according to Officer James Cason.

Police started warning citizens in November that a scam artist was biking in certain neighborhoods. He would stop, go to victims doors and tell them he had car trouble and needed to pay a tow truck driver. He would tell the victims he lived in the neighborhood, gave them his alleged address and promised to come back later in the day to return the money. He never did.

Allen was arrested and charged with obtaining money by false pretenses, Cason said.
