VMI hires Scott Wachenheim as head football coach

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WAVY) – Scott Wachenheim announced he will be leaving his post as offensive line coach at the University of Virginia, and will take over as head man at the Virginia Military Institute.

Wachenheim, a graduate of the Air Force Academy, has been with head coach Mike London since London was hired in 2010 and will take over  Keydets program that finished 2-10 this past season, and 17-62 under Sparky Woods, who was let go on Nov. 24.

“It’s an honor to be selected to lead the VMI football program,” said Wachenheim in a statement, “The Institute’s mission so closely reflects the goals and values instilled in me from the United States Air Force Academy.”

Wachenheim has helped several cavaliers make it to the NFL, including Oday Aboushi, Luke Bowanko, Morgan Moses, and Austin Pasztor. This past season, he took a rather banged up Cavalier offensive line and helped turn it into a unit that only allowed 16 quarterback sacks, which ranked 19 in the country.
