NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The Norfolk man accused by Old Dominion University Police of raping a female student in November faced a judge Monday.
Denzel Delk, 21, appeared at his preliminary hearing. One charge of rape was certified to the first grand jury in January, according to Amanda Howie, a spokeswoman for the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney.
Delk was charged after a female student identified him as one of three men who raped her in an ODU dorm on Nov. 8, after a night of drinking. When the victim reported the crime, she also said her iPad was missing and her roommate couldn’t find several items of clothing.
During Monday’s hearing, the prosecution withdrew a related charge against Delk for grand larceny. However, he was convicted of a misdemeanor possession of marijuana charge and sentenced to 30 days in jail, all of which was suspended.
Howie said Delk remains in police custody, due to the rape charge.
