NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — The execution of a search warrant in New Kent County Monday morning resulted in an arrest and the seizure of hundreds of marijuana plants.
Investigators obtained a search warrant for a residence in Lanexa, Virginia related to the manufacturing of marijuana, according to Chief Deputy Joseph McLaughlin with the New Kent Sheriff’s Office. Just before 10 a.m., multiple law enforcement agencies served the warrant at 1476 of S. Waterside Drive.
McLaughlin said a number of “grow rooms” were found in the basement of the home, as were about 500 marijuana plants and hydroponic grow equipment, including timers, lights, water systems, and fertilizer. All were seized by the sheriff’s office.
The homeowner, 54-year-old Danny Ray Norwood, was arrested for the following felony charges: manufacturing marijuana, possession of marijuana in excess of five pounds with the intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm while in possession of more than one pound of marijuana.
Norewood was taken to Henrico Regional Jail East, where he is being held without bond. He is scheduled to appear in New Kent General District Court Tuesday morning.
