NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News police have found and arrested the driver connected to a hit-and-run incident earlier this week.
Friday afternoon, officers arrested 46-year-old Charles William Robinson Jr. and charged him with felony hit and run, and reckless driving, according to Holly McPherson with the NNPD.
The charges stem from an incident Tuesday morning, along Brick Kiln Boulevard. Police said a bicyclist traveling east in the right shoulder of the roadway was hit by a vehicle that didn’t stop.
Investigators used witness accounts, surveillance video, and information from a local car dealership to determine the suspect vehicle was a a 2000 to 2002 red, two-door Pontiac Sunfire. They also learned the vehicle was missing a passenger side view mirror.
With that information, a NNPD Sergeant of Special Operations spotted the vehicle around 10:30 a.m. Friday. It was in a parking lot in the 200 block of Arthur Way, McPherson said. When Robinson returned to the vehicle, police took him into custody.
The victim, a 59-year-old Newport News man, remains in a local hospital, but police say his injuries are not life-threatening, anymore.
