VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — An overnight garage fire forced six people out of a home in Virginia Beach, early Friday morning.

When crews responded to the residence in the 5400 block of Sherluck Road, just off Princess Anne Road, firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the garage.

Battalion Chief John Keyes with the Virginia Beach Fire Department told WAVY.com six people made it out of the home by themselves. Keyes says the fire was contained and did not spread to the rest of the home.

The American Red Cross is helping four adults displaced by the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
