NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The football season may be over at Old Dominion, but basketball is ready to fill the void with some excitement this winter. Off last weekend and all of this week while the players prepared for semester exams, the Monarchs return to action Sunday afternoon when they take on North Carolina A&T at the Ted Constant Center.
The Monarchs (6-1) are off to their best start in fours and have put together several quality out of conference wins. They have victories over then 14th ranked VCU, LSU, Richmond and George Mason, and ODU is actually receiving votes in both top 25 polls.
“That’s great, hopefully we can play well enough and deserve to be included in the top 25 at some point,” said coach Jeff Jones. “We’re not going to worry about that, we’re going to worry about what’s in front of us and that’s improving as a basketball team. I’m also adamant that our players not get carried away, you do a little bit of good and everyone is telling you how great you are and you start believing it and you lose sight of what the goal is.”
Sunday’s game vs. North Carolina A&T is the first of five consecutive home games.
