NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News residents got a chance to talk to city officials about a proposed transportation center Wednesday night.

City leaders want to spend $38 million to build an 8,000-square-foot building. An Amtrak train line and Hampton Roads Transit bus lines and taxis will run in and out of the center.

The station and train turnaround would be at 500 Bland Boulevard, between Warwick Boulevard and Interstate 64 in Newport News. According to a news release from the city, the entrance will be off Aspen Meadow Lane, which connects south of Bland Boulevard.

Federal and state funding will be provided for construction, which is scheduled to begin in 2016 with completion expected in 2018.

Wednesday’s public meeting was held at the Denbigh Community Center on Warwick Boulevard. The city said citizen comments will be part of the ongoing project.
