RALEIGH, N.C. (AP/WAVY) — The N.C. Highway Patrol says 17 people were killed on state roads during the Thanksgiving holiday period.
According to the patrol, there were 11 fatal accidents from the period beginning at 6 p.m. last Wednesday and ending at midnight Sunday.
An accident in Forsyth County killed two people near Kernersville, and three died in two separate accidents in Robeson County.
During the holiday period last year, 10 people died in traffic accidents. In 2012, there were 12 fatalities and in 2011, there were 11 fatal collisions, according to Lt. Jeff Gordon with N.C. Department of Public Safety.
