VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Police have arrested and charged a 17-year-old with murder after a fatal shooting in Virginia Beach, Tuesday night.

Just before 10 p.m., Virginia Beach Police and Emergency Medical Services were called to the 400 block of Peregrine Street, in the Northridge area, for a report of a gunshot victim.

“We were watching TV, and we saw all the lights pull up, and we saw at least 15 cops and a fire truck,” said Kirsten Peterson, who lives nearby. She watched an investigation unfold out her window, something she said would have come as a shock a few years ago.

“For this neighborhood, nothing surprises me anymore. Last week, we had four shots in the park. We have shootings all the time, not deadly, but gunfire and all that,” she explained.

This time, the gunfire proved fatal. When officers arrived, they found 41-year-old Mariano Mosely Lacerna suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Information was quickly developed regarding the suspect’s identity, and the 17-year-old male suspect was taken into custody, charged with murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. He is being held in the Virginia Beach Juvenile Detention Center.

According to Virginia Beach MPO Tonya Borman, the suspect and the victim were known to each other. She said police are not releasing the name of the suspect because he is a minor.
