University choir director charged with sexual misconduct

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A sexual misconduct charge has been brought against a Hampton University faculty member.

The university’s choir director, Omar Dickenson, was served a summons last Wednesday for sexual battery. According to court documents, the offense took place the day before, on Tuesday.

10 On Your Side reached out to the school for more information on Dickenson and received the following statement:

A faculty member at Hampton University has been charged with sexual misconduct and has been suspended pending an investigation. Hampton University has had a Committee on Sexual Harassment and Misconduct for 35 years. For that period, that Committee has established a protocol for investigating and adjudicating matters of this nature. That protocol will be followed in this case. Hampton University has always had zero tolerance as it relates to sexual misconduct, and that stance will continue.

No further information has been released.
