NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – The Lady Monarchs put themselves in a bad way with some poor first-half shooting, and it cost them. Old Dominion fell to Rider (1-4), who won their first game of the year with a 59-56 overtime win at the Ted Constant Center on Sunday afternoon.
ODU (5-2) missed all nine of its three point attempts, and only connected on a porous 28.6 percent from the free-throw line in the first half. Even with a double-double from Jennie Simms, who led the way with 20 points and 11 rebounds, it seemed every make from the Monarchs had a response from the Broncs in the second half.
Tied at 49, neither team could manage a go-ahead bucket in the final minute of regulation. The Broncs, however, took control of the overtime early, scoring the first six points and hanging on for the win.
ODU is back at te Ted on Wednesday to face Howard.
