Virginia Beach group protests police brutality

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Protesters stood along Independence Boulevard in Virginia Beach and even stepped in the road to block traffic at times.

Members of the group told 10 On Your Side they were protesting police brutality and a grand jury’s decision to not indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson for killing Michael Brown five days ago.

“It’s not really a race issue, it’s a police brutality issue,” said Jae Giddens, a protester. “People are losing their lives everyday. As you can see there are not just African-Americans out here, there are also Caucasians out here. And that’s what it needs to be, all races coming together to unite, to let them know a change needs to be made.”

The group said that even though only a handful of people took part in today’s demonstration, it’s a good start to their protest plans.
