HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) – Holiday shoppers turned to local businesses to buy gifts Saturday between two days that are known nationally for deals.
What’s special about this day in November is that Governor Terry McAuliffe released a proclamation recognizing it as Small Business Saturday in the Commonwealth.
The goal is to help small shops cash in on the buying frenzy between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
“If someone comes in I can order them something,” said Karen James, who works at All About Virginia & More. “If they can’t find it we can go looking for it. They feel special when they come in to the local businesses. They work with you a little bit more plus you’re helping your community out and the money stays right here in Suffolk.”
Small business owners hope that by getting customers to come in this day – they will continue coming throughout the year.
