VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia Beach police are investigating a death after a body was found in the water Friday afternoon.
Officer Lonnie Cain said the call came in around 4:30 p.m. Nov. 28. Someone saw the body floating on the edge of the pond off Lynnhaven Parkway and Pleasant Valley Road. The location is directly across from Salem Middle School.
Cain said divers pulled the body out of the water. Homicide detectives are investigating to determine exactly what led to the man’s death.
Crews shut down one lane of Lynnhaven Parkway while the recovery effort was underway. A neighborhood backs up to the small pond. However, neighbors were not aware of anything suspicious happening near the water recently.
“There’s a lot of questions being raised,” said Chris Lastinger, who works the pond frequently with his daughter.
Lastinger said the pond isn’t very big which is why he was surprised to see the rescue boat entering it Friday evening.
“For that to happen over there is out of the ordinary,” said Lastinger.
