NNPD: Woman fires gun, melts ceiling fan in domestic disturbance

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A Newport News woman started breaking things inside her boyfriend’s apartment and shooting a pistol after some kind of disturbance, police say.

Attiyah Fenwick, 19, was with her boyfriend in the 100 block of Heritage Way when she became upset at him and began to intentionally destroy property inside, according to authorities. She fired the handgun several times inside and lit a plastic trashcan on fire, the release stated.

The flames caused damage to the sheet rock in the house, melted the ceiling fan and caused smoke damage throughout, officers said.

No one in the surrounding apartment units were hurt. Fenwick has been charged with brandishing, two counts of unlawfully discharging a firearm, arson, destruction of property and reckless handling of a firearm, according to police.
