HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – Six people were displaced after their Hampton apartment building caught fire Wednesday, just before midnight.
Battalion Chief Jeffrey Pereira told WAVY.com the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue was notified at 11:50 p.m. of a reported apartment fire at Cambridge Apartments, located in the 5100 block of Goldsboro Drive. The first units at the scene reported heavy fire and smoke coming from the second floor.
Fire advanced into the attic areas above three apartments in the seven-unit complex. The flames were extinguished using elevated fire streams from ladder apparatuses.
The fire caused extensive damage to three apartments on the second floor. Pereira said the presence of two fire walls kept the damage from spreading beyond those residential units.
There were no injuries, but six people were displaced.
The Hampton Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire was accidental, starting in an electrical receptacle in a bedroom
on the second floor.
