VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A Virginia Beach council member is looking for feedback on a not-so-subtle proposal about money management and city leadership.
John Moss pitched a resolution in council last night that would block any member of city council from requesting the city treasurer put Virginia Beach money towards any financial institution where a council member is an officer, employee or board member.
Note — the proposal is not TowneBank specific. Moss says it’s a small step to eliminate any appearance of a conflict of interest. He says he hopes it boosts public trust.
Moss is the same city council member who asked Virginia Beach Mayor Will Sessoms to temporarily resign earlier this month, while a special prosecutor looked through conflict of interest allegations. An investigation accuses Sessoms of voting 60 times, as mayor, with the interest of his other employer, TowneBank, in mind.
