WASHINGTON, D.C. (WAVY) – Old Dominion’s postseason run came to a heartbreaking end on Sunday afternoon. The Monarchs, mere seconds away from a penalty kick shootout, allowed a Georgetown goal, and fell 2-1 in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
ODU scored its first goal off a corner kick in the 25th minute of the first half. A Georgetown player trying to clear the kick headed the shot into his own net, giving the Monarchs a 1-0 lead.
The Hoyas knotted the score at 1-1 in the 75th minute before putting in the winning goal later on.
