Man walks out empty handed after 7-Eleven attempted robbery

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Police are looking to identify a man they say walked into a Newport News 7-Eleven and demanded money but instead walked out empty handed.

Newport News Police responded to the 7-Eleven located at 744 J Clyde Morris Blvd. after reports of a robbery, Monday at around 12:30 a.m.

The store clerks told police the man entered the store, produced a handgun and demanded money from the register. The clerk showed the suspect the money in the register and the man cursed and left the store without taking anything, say police.

According to the employees, there was a small amount of money in the register. It remains unknown why the man did not take the money.

Police say the suspect matches the description of the man that robbed the First Virginia/Check Smart business located at 696 J Clyde Morris Blvd. on Nov. 19.
