HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) – 10 On Your Side has compiled a few steps for anyone looking to travel with his or her pet during the holiday season.
First – check with your airline to see if your dog or cat can travel in a carrier or if it has to travel by freight. Also feed your animal at least five hours before flight time to avoid an upset stomach.
If you’re traveling by rail, keep in mind Amtrack only allows service dogs. If you’re driving, make sure your pet isn’t a distraction for the driver.
Experts also said it’s a good idea to get a check up with your vet before heading out. It gives you a chance to address any health issues the pet may have and get any medications you might need for your animals.
Make sure vaccinations are up to date and store your pet’s medical history with your important documents like a plane ticket as well.
