VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach Police has confirmed one person was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries after crashing into a tree, Tuesday night.

Police received the call about the crash in the 1300 block of Salem Road, shortly after 8 p.m.

According to officers, a 2007 Toyota Scion was traveling northbound on Salem Road when the driver lost control and struck a tree.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle and transported to a nearby hospital with life threatening injuries.

Police say speed and wet roads were contributing factors in the crash.

Dispatchers had previously said the vehicle and a moped had collided. However, police later confirmed there was no moped.
