Seaman facing charges for alleged assault in Md.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard says a seaman will face a court-martial for an alleged sexual assault in Baltimore.

The court-martial proceeding for Seaman Luis Escobosa is expected to begin Jan. 20 in Norfolk.

The Coast Guard says the charges follow a four-month-long investigation. The Coast Guard says Escobosa committed a sexual act on a victim without consent while in Baltimore in October 2013. The Coast Guard says he was assigned to the Cutter Eagle when the alleged misconduct occurred and has since been transferred to the Coast Guard Yard in Baltimore.

Telephone and email messages left Saturday for Escobosa’s attorney were not immediately returned.
