NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — In Norfolk court Monday, a locally based Sailor admitted to viewing child pornography via a Navy ship’s computer.

United States District Judge Mark Davis accepted the guilty plea from 23-year-old Douglas Lawrence True of Clarksville, Ind., according to Deanna Warren with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.

The statement of facts filed with the plea agreement state True was an active-duty Sailor when he was caught viewing child pornography and the command seized and searched his cellphone.

NCIS agents learned True was talking with a number of underage girls, trying to get them to send explicit photos of themselves to him. In one case, True convinced his co-defendant, Rebecca Gibbs, to take pictures of herself performing sex acts on a one-year-old child, and send them to him.

In June, a federal grand jury indicted True and Gibbs on charges relating to producing, receiving and viewing child pornography.

Gibbs pleaded guilty to production of child pornography in September, and faces at least 15 years in prison when she is sentenced in January. True faces a 20-year bout in prison when he is sentenced in February.
