SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Fire destroyed farming equipment in rural Suffolk Monday afternoon.

Around 4 p.m., Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews were called to a combine fire in the 4900 block of Deer Forest Road, according to city spokesman Tim Kelley.

At the scene, first responders found the combine fully engulfed in fire. Firefighters were able to control the flames by 4:37 p.m.

Kelley said the combine was picking soybeans, at the time the fire started. The cause of the fire was determined to be mechanical malfunction, and the machine was declared a total loss.

No one was injured.
