5 arrested, 2 suspects at large in hotel mugging

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News detectives are still searching for two suspects in a recent assault and robbery.

Around 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 19, officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Operations Drive for a robbery and assault that happened in a room at the Microtel Inn, NNPD spokesman Lou Thurston said.

The 18-year-old male victim told police he was at a party in one of the rooms when several people assaulted him and took his cell phone, jewelry, cash and shoes. He sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, Thurston said.

Investigators identified seven suspects, each to be charged with robbery, maiming by mob and three counts of conspiracy to commit a felony. Five have been arrested:

  • Joszef Robert Allen, 19, of Newport News was arrested at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 27 in the first block of Rexford Drive.
  • Jamal Tyre Williams, 19, of Newport News, was arrested, after turning himself in at the city jail.
  • William Lee Turner, 19, of Newport News, was arrested, after turning himself in at the city jail.
  • Ramel Devron Paige, 20, of Newport News, was arrested, after turning himself in at police headquarters.
  • Andre Rashon Watson, 19, of Hampton was arrested in Newport News on Nov. 11

The following suspects remain at large:

  • Eric Dwain Edmunds, 19, of the 800 block of Pelham Drive in Newport News.
  • Thaddeus Ruben Graham, 19, of the first block of McKinley Drive in Newport News.
