York caregiver accused of stealing $10k from elderly

YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) – A caregiver to an elderly woman stole thousands from the 92-year-old in York County over the course of a year and a half, police say.

Michele Conley was arrested Oct. 23 in Newport News on 13 counts of forgery, two counts of credit card fraud and one count of credit card theft, according to York County deputies.

Conley, a caregiver for a 92-year-old woman in the 100 block of Brassie Drive, is accused of taking over $10,000 through forgery and fraud, the release stated.

The victim realized her bank statements weren’t adding up and called authorities – there were unauthorized charges on her accounts. Police said the thefts happened between Jan. 1, 2013 and Sept. 28, 2014.
