NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A Newport News man chased a woman around with a knife and threw a chair at her in early October, police say.

Charles Howington, 25, got in a fight Oct. 7 with the 28-year-old victim breaking several items inside the home on the 600 block of Ridley Circle, according to officers. Howington stopped the victim from calling 911 by breaking the house phone and then picked up a knife and chased her around inside the home.

The victim used Howington’s phone to call 911, and while she did, he threw a chair and hit her. He left before officer’s arrived and was arrested Oct. 28 when he turned himself in at the Newport News City Jail, the release stated.

Howington has been charged with abduction, two counts of attempted malicious wounding, destruction of property and interfering with 911, according to authorities.
