VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Local Navy pilots got a chance to check out one of the military’s newest planes, Tuesday.
An F-35C “Lightning II” Joint Strike Fighter landed at Naval Air Station Oceana to provide fleet aviators an opportunity to view the aircraft and receive a brief from the flight crew and maintainers.
This visit is the first time an operational F-35C has landed at NAS Oceana.
The aircraft is assigned to a squadron based at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. It’s also scheduled to land aboard the USS Nimitz off the California coast next week.
