Virginia Beach armed robber draws 15 years behind bars

Rodney Renaldo-William Lester (Virginia Beach Police Department)

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – The man who robbed a  business in Virginia Beach almost 18 months ago will face 15 years in prison.

Rodney Renaldo-William Lester, 23, pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery, two counts of use of firearm, wearing a mask in public and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Lester held up the Dollar General on 5013 Virginia Beach Boulevard when he walked up to employees leaving the store pointing a gun and ordered them back inside, the release stated. He took their cellphones and told the female store clerk to get on the ground while the male employee opened the safe and handed him $235.

Handing over the cash triggered the store’s alarm, and Lester fled. Police took him into custody about four blocks away from Dollar General. Officers found a firearm and the money hidden behind a nearby dumpster, according to authorities.

Lester’s prior record includes conviction for charges on two counts of grand larceny, two counts of destruction of property, receiving stolen goods, three counts of assault, disorderly conduct, failure to appear and two violation of probation charges, the documents stated.
