Suffolk man indicted in string of assaults

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Suffolk man accused of inappropriately touching an underage girl over a period of two years is in police custody Friday night.

John David Street, 52, was arrested Friday after a grand jury handed down a 27-count direct indictment against him, Suffolk police spokeswoman Diana Klink said. His charges include, aggravated sexual battery, indecent liberties with a child, abduction with intent to defile, and sexual penetration with an object.

The victim, who is younger than 13-years-old, told police the incidents happened between 2001 and 2003 at a residence in the 1800 block of Mountainside Avenue. Street and the victim are known to each other. Investigators are still looking into the alleged assaults.

Street is being held without bond at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
