HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hundreds of residents in Hampton were left without power after a car struck a pole Thursday morning.

Hampton Police Cpl. Mary Shackelford said a car hit a pole at the intersection of Briarfield Road and Briarwood Drive, around 2:20 a.m. A woman who was inside the vehicle was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police have not said if the female was the driver of the vehicle or a passenger.

According to Bonita Billingsley Harris with Dominion Power, the accident knocked out power to 199 customers in the neighborhood. She said Dominion had to de-energize power to an additional 492 customers so crews could replace the pole. They re-routed power to those customers and power was restored around 8:46 a.m.

The original 199 customers were out longer until the pole was completely replaced. Power for those customers was restored by 10 a.m.

There are four schools in the area, but the schools were not affected.
