Oceanfront carjacking suspect admits guilt

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Beach man accused of carjacking a woman at the Oceanfront, then leading police on a chase that ended at Town Center, pleaded guilty Tuesday.

Jason Thomas Smith admitted to stealing a Honda SUV at knifepoint, in the TowneBank parking lot in May. Then, he got onto Interstate 264, got off on Independence Boulevard, and crashed near the P.F. Chang’s restaurant.

Smith pleaded guilty to four felonies, including carjacking, malicious wounding, hit and run, and eluding police. He will be sentenced Friday.
