PORSTMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – The Coast Guard medevaced a sailor Wednesday from a Navy vessel off the Virginia coast.
The request for help came from watchstanders around 3 a.m. aboard the USS Barry who reported a 36-year-old crewmember experiencing chest pain.
A MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., reached the scene about 40 miles east of Virginia Beach just after 5 a.m.
The aircrew lowered a rescue basket and swimmer then hoisted the patient into the helicopter.
Portsmouth Naval Hospital said he was in stable condition, the report stated.
