SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The Norfolk Medical Examiner’s Office has said the retired Philadelphia police officer who was shot in her Suffolk home Saturday died of a gunshot wound to her torso.
According to Suffolk Police, officers found 69-year-old Virginia Mae Hill in her home on the 400 block of Collier Crescent, around 5:30 a.m. She was transported to Sentara Obici Hospital with life-threatening injuries and pronounced dead a short time later.
Suffolk Police are investigating Hill’s death as a homicide. Police have not released any information about suspects in Hill’s death. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
Hill solved several missing children cases during her time as an officer, according to a press release naming her the January 2002 Officer of the Month from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. She retired in 2002, a spokeswoman from the Philadelphia Police Department said.
