Man shot in neck expected to recover

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News Police say a man who was shot in the neck after a verbal confrontation is expected to recover.

Officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of Marshall Avenue in reference to a shooting, Saturday at 3:24 a.m.

The victim told police he and a female were walking along Marshall Avenue when he became involved in a verbal confrontation with a man and was shot in the neck.

According to police, the suspect fired several shots at the victim striking him once. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect is described as a black male in his early 20s, approximately 5`6″, “chubby” build, with a small afro, wearing a dark-colored pullover with “USA” across the front and a red stripe down the sleeves and dark blue jeans. Police say the suspect ran from the area after the shooting.
