VA. gas prices drop below $3 per gallon

VIRGINIA (WAVY) — According to AAA Tidewater, gas prices in Virginia are lower than they’ve been since 2011.

The average price for regular unleaded gas across the state is $2.99. That is 17 cents lower than last year and 16 cents lower than last month. The last time the average cost was lower than $2.99 was in February 2011.

In Hampton Roads, the average price is $3.04 — 14 cents lower than last year and 13 cents lower than last month. The national average price is $3.18, after falling for 20 straight days.

AAA says the cause for the drop is both low demand and abundant supply for oil, globally.
