ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — The Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a suspect in the investigation of a string of burglaries in the Burwell’s Bay an Longview areas.

Dawud Yusuf Ward, 21, of Isle of Wight County, was arrested Wednesday after a search warrant that was served on a residence in the 5400 block of Old Stage Highway. He was charged with receiving stolen goods, four counts breaking and entering with the intent to commit a felony and five counts of grand larceny.

The charges stem from four burglaries, and the sheriff’s office said additional charges are pending.

Ward is being held in the Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond. He will be arraigned at the Isle of Wight County Courthouse on Thursday morning.

A spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office said burglaries in the county are down 37 percent compared to last year. There have been six since the beginning of October. “[We] have seen a trend in daytime residential burglaries where parties are away from the home, either at work or school,” said Lisa Martin, executive assistant to the sheriff.
