Gibson gets weekend start, Wagner to Anaheim

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY-AP) – Anaheim Ducks goalie John Gibson has been assigned to the Admirals for the weekend.

The 21-year-old Gibson hasn’t played since giving up six goals in a season-opening loss at Pittsburgh. Frederik Andersen has since won three straight games for the Ducks, and Gibson wants to regain his sharpness in Norfolk before returning to Anaheim next week.

The Ducks also placed forward Patrick Maroon and defenseman Bryan Allen on injured reserve Wednesday.

Anaheim recalled goalie Jason LaBarbera and forward Chris Wagner from Norfolk.

Maroon apparently injured his knee Monday in a collision with Buffalo’s Josh Gorges. Allen hasn’t played this season due to a lower-body injury.

The Ducks signed LaBarbera in the offseason. Wagner is the AHL’s co-leader in goals this season. He scored two short-handed goals in the first period and added the game-winner in the Admirals season opening win against Hershey.

The Admirals host the Manchester Monarchs Friday and Saturday at Scope. The Monarchs are the top affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings.
