NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News Police say two young men were shot when they went to look outside the window after hearing someone outside their home in the East End Tuesday night.

Minutes before 11 p.m., patrol officers in the area of the Marshall Court Apartments heard several gunshots. Then emergency communications got a 911 call about a shooting in the 700 block of 30th Street, according to Donald Watt with the Newport News Police Department.

At the scene, officers found two victims inside a residence: a 21-year-old man with several life-threatening gunshot wounds and a 19-year-old male with a single gunshot wound. Both were transported to a local hospital, where the 21-year-old succumbed to his injuries at 11:59 p.m.

On Wednesday morning, police identified the 21-year-old victim as Brandon Peter Dudley.

Watt said the victims were in the first floor of the residence when they heard someone in the alley outside. The two men looked out a window and were struck when about 10 shots were fired.

The 19-year-old is recovering in the hospital.

Police are still investigating, but have no further information to release, at this time.

This shooting comes just a little more than 24 hours after a man was shot and killed along Winston Avenue in Newport News Monday evening.
