NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Police have arrested the wife of the man found dead in Newport News Friday morning.
Rose Marie Uribes, 29, has been charged with murder of her husband after he was found unresponsive on the floor of their house in the 100 block of Watson Drive, according to authorities.
The investigation revealed that Rose drove to a family member’s residence in Gloucester and told them what she had done to Zacarias Uribes II, police said. The family member called 911, and Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office took Rose Uribes into custody.
Newport News fugitive apprehension detectives then transported her back to Newport News where she remains in the custody of the city’s sheriff’s office.
Rose Uribes was also charged with the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to officers..
Zacarias Uribes , 30, was pronounced dead around 11:30 a.m. Oct. 10.
“I was on my way back from work,” added neighbor Sean Montgomery. “I got here about 11 o’clock and saw the (police) cruisers and fire trucks. Cops were running around with pistols drawn.”
When police went in the home, they found Zacarias Uribes lying right next to the front door.
10 On Your Side spoke with his family off camera. After graduating from Kecoughtan High School in Hampton, family says Uribes joined the Marine Corps. He spent a year in Iraq. When he was honorably discharged, he went back to school and worked with computers.
Zacarias Uribes moved into the neighborhood about five years ago with his wife and two children.
“I talked to his wife and kids a couple times sitting out here at night as they walk by,” Montgomery added. “They seemed nice.”
Neighbors tell us Zacarias Uribes was one of the nicest guys you can meet and always had a smile on his face.
Police spent the day collecting evidence. They said Zacarias Uribes death was the result of domestic violence.
