CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WAVY) — Charlottesville NBC affiliate, WVIR, reports Jesse Matthew was one of dozens of cab drivers authorities questioned in 2009 after Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington went missing.
According to the report from WVIR, a taxi driver told Charlottesville detectives he saw Harrington get into a cab the night she went missing. Two of Matthew’s co-workers told authorities Matthew was working the night of Harrington’s disappearance. WVIR reports the taxi cab Matthew was driving the night Harrington went missing was recovered two weeks ago on a farm.
In September VSP announced forensic evidence linked Matthew to the disappearance of Harrington, whose body was found several months after she disappeared. She was last seen attending a concert at the University of Virginia campus.
Matthew has also been charged with abduction in the disappearance of UVA student Hannah Graham. The 18-year-old was last seen leaving a bar near the UVA campus. She has not been found.
As the search for Graham continues, her friends hold out hope she will come back home. People Magazine recently published an article, where they spoke to several of her friends. You can read their online exclusive, here.
Matthew is behind bars at the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional jail without bond. He has been charged with abduction with intent to defile in the Graham case.
