Fire breaks out overnight at Portsmouth home

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Fire crews have contained flames at a Portsmouth home after a fire broke out early Friday morning.

Portsmouth Fire Assistant Chief Mike Stockton said they received a call regarding a fire at a home on the 2200 block of Elm Avenue, around 2 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, they noticed smoke coming from a two-story single family home. They found the fire in the first-floor dining room and were able to contain the flames.

The fire was determined to be unintentional. Stockton said there were no occupants known to live at the home.
