PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A local minister was found not guilty Thursday for charges related to sex crimes involving a minor.
Trevon Boone, 39, of Chesapeake turned himself into authorities in May after being accused of raping a 17-year-old girl he mentored, sometime between September 2012 and January 2013. At the time, he lived in Portsmouth.
The initial charge of rape was dropped so prosecutors could bring a direct indictment for indecent liberties against Boone, according to Bill Prince with the Portsmouth Commonwealth’s Attorney.
But after a bench trial heard by Judge Melvin, Boone was found not guilty in Portsmouth Circuit Court.
At the time of his arrest, Boone was a minister at Tabernacle Baptist Outreach Center in Suffolk.
