HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – Hampton police have arrested a man they say tried to rob a couple on Wednesday. The 19-year-old is accused of brandishing a gun and demanding money, but the male victim pulled out a knife and fought back, said authorities.
In the 2100 block of Woodmansee Drive, Oshea Javon Phela Ross and another suspect threatened a man and woman Oct. 1, according to officers. Police said the second suspect and woman fled the scene when Ross and the man started to struggle. Ross unloaded several bullets into the victim, but the 33-year-old got away after slashing him, according to investigators.
Around 8: 30 p.m., police arrested Ross at his home in the first block of Glascow Way. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and once he received treatment, officers took him into custody. Authorities said he didn’t actually take anything from the victim.
Police found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds in the 2100 block of Nickerson Boulevard. He remains at a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Ross is charged with two counts attempted robbery, two counts use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and one count aggravated malicious wounding. Hampton’s Sheriff’s Office is holding him in custody.
