NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk Fire-Rescue crews knocked down an apartment fire in about ten minutes Wednesday afternoon.

Norfolk dispatchers received a call around 4:45 p.m. for an apartment fire in the 7900 block of Becket Street, according to Battalion Chief Julian Williamson with Norfolk Fire-Rescue.

At the scene, firefighters evacuated residents from the six-unit building and quickly extinguished a kitchen fire inside an upstairs apartment. Residents were allowed back inside after crews ventilated the two-story building.

Williamson said no one was injured, but two residents were displaced. They will be assisted by the apartment complex owners.

The cause of the fire was determined to be unattended cooking materials.
