NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A local man who tried to bring a pistol into the airport was cited Tuesday on a weapons charge.
Transportation Security Administration at Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport stopped the man at the X-ray machine checkpoint when TSA officers noticed a .38 caliber gun loaded with nine rounds in his carry-on bag, according to authorities.
The Peninsula Airport Commission Department of Public Safety police confiscated the firearm and cited the Newport News man on a state charge.
Passengers are allowed to travel with guns in checked baggage as long as they are properly packaged and declared. Weapons aren’t allowed to travel in carry-ons, though, the release stated.
