NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Some Rosemont Middle School students got a special visit from NATO-Allied Command Transformation representatives on Wednesday.
Lt. Commander Dave Jones from the U.K. Royal Navy and Captain Steve Morien from the U.S. Navy talked about NATO’s history, its structure, and its current involvement around the world.
The students are in the Academy of International Studies, which focuses on World Languages, World Cultures, and Military Science. The program is designed to stimulate curiosity and love of learning, while concentrating on the skills of critical and analytic thinking. The principal is Dr. Lynnell Gibson.
This visit is part of a year-long collaboration between the school and Norfolk NATO Festival. According to NATO Fest officials, next month a Dutch Captain will share with the students about the Netherlands, and they hope to have a representative visit each month so the students will continue to learn about NATO and its member countries throughout the school year.
More than 750 service members and civilians from 28 NATO nations, Allied Command Transformation staff members, currently call the Hampton Roads community home.
